When you pursue a healthy, balanced diet, you pay attention to the quality and quantity of food you consume. In a similar way, consider the quality and quantity of news you consume. You'll be surprised at the positive turn your life takes. After all, what we focus on matters!
Just follow these 6 easy steps:
1. Be aware of the quality of news you consume each day. Are you consuming news by choice (you've consciously chosen a particular news source) or because it's there, wherever you happen to be at the moment? Is the news providing you sustenance, is it actually newsworthy and informing you, or is it simply sensationalized junk news?
2. Limit the quantity of negative news you consume each day. As with junk food, too much negative news leaves us bloated and lethargic and feeling bad about ourselves and the world. Consume smaller, more nutritious portions.
3. Stop spreading the negative news. The next time you catch yourself contributing to the negative news flab, let an imaginary And Now for the Good News alarm sound and shift your mind—and your mouth—to a more positive topic.
4. Seek out positive news and share it with others. Once we start focusing on positive, solutions-oriented news—looking for it, talking about it with others—it attracts more of itself. We get what we focus on!
5. Mind your youth. If you have kids or interact with them regularly, become conscious of how much negative news they're exposed to each day. If you have teenagers, share the good news you've found with them. Who knows what interesting discussions could arise.
6. Share your experience. Tell your friends and family about what you've experienced since taking the challenge. Share your story with us, too—we'd love to hear from you! Email us at share@andnowforthegoodnews.com.
